SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Sophomore
Jake Craig (Skowhegan, Maine) finished fourth at 133 pounds to highlight a 14
th-place finish for the University of Southern Maine Huskies' wrestling team at the 2023 Doug Parker Invitational hosted by Springfield College on Saturday.
On the Mat:
- Craig, recently ranked ninth at 133 pounds by The Open Matt, went 3-2 to earn his fourth place finish. Opening with a strong 19-4 win by technical fall over Wyatt Gentile of New England College, Craig pinned his second opponent Kwesi Amoa of Rhode Island College in 1:00. Craig then dispatched Delaware Valley's Ryan Kelly 14-2 for a major decision win before falling in his next two bouts to place fourth. Craig lost 6-1 in the third place bout to Springfield's Gianni Manginelli. Manginelli is ranked 14th by the NWCA Coaches Poll. In his semifinal bout, Craig lost to Danny Haws 9-2. Haws is ranked 15th by The Open Matt.

The Huskies will host the first of its two home events of the 2023-2024 season on Saturday, December 2 when the Costello Sports Complex will welcome a number of teams for the Ted Reese Invitational. Action begins at 10:00 am.
