BREWSTER, Mass. – The University of Southern Maine Huskies' golf team placed 16th at the 2023 New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Championship held at The Captains Course in Brewster, Mass. The Huskies shot 351 (+63) as a team in the second round to add to their 333 (+45) from the first round for a team score of 684 (+108).

Husson University (603, +27) placed first followed by Endicott College (608, +32) and the University of Hartford (609, +33). Ashton Lewis from Eastern Connecticut State University was the event champion with a two-day score of 145 (+1).

Junior
Owen Doyle (Gardiner, Maine) had the best round for the Huskies with an 81 (+9) and shaved 11 strokes off his first-round score to finish tied for 79th (173, +29). Doyle ended the round with a birdie on the 18th hole. Senior
Zach Ellsworth, who tied for the best first-round score, fired an 85 (+13) and finished the competition tied for 29th with a score of 156 (+12). He birdied two holes in the second round to finish with five over the two-day event.

Sophomore
Sam Farr (Gorham, Maine) and senior
Jett Healy (Stratham, N.H./Exeter) each carded a 94 (+22) in the second round. Farr finished the event with a two-round score of 178 (+34) to tie for 85th and Healy tied for 87th with a score of 180 (+36).

Colin DeWitt (Newington, Conn.) took two strokes off his first-round score with a 91 (+19) to finish an 184 (+40). He placed 94th overall.

The fall season has now come to a close for the Huskies. The team will return to action in the spring.
