DeWitt Leads Huskies to Fourth-Place Finish at USM Fall Invite

GRAY, Maine – Junior Colin DeWitt (Newington, Conn.) had a career-best round finishing eight-over par (79) on Sunday afternoon at the University of Southern Maine Fall Invitational at Spring Meadows Golf Club in Gray. DeWitt tied for 10th at the event and the Huskies (322, +38) placed fourth in a seven-team field.

The University of New England (308, +24) placed first in the event led by medalist Trevor Flanagan's three-over par (74) performance. Thomas College (315, +31) placed second followed by Maine Maritime Academy in third (321, +37).

DeWitt broke 80 for the first time in his career and recorded five birdies. Four of those five came in the first nine holes as he finished the front nine two-under par. Sophomore Finnegan Sharpe (Durham, Maine/Freeport) and freshman Jackson Horne (Woodsville, N.H.) each carded an 80 (+9) and tied for 12th. Sharpe played well on the back half course finishing one-over par over the final nine holes with six pars and a birdie. Horne had two birdies on the day.

Junior Owen Doyle (Gardiner, Maine) tied for 17th with an 83 (+11) and had a birdie on the seventh hole. Senior Jett Healy (Stratham, N.H./Exeter) also competed for the Huskies and carded a 97 (+26) to tie for 32nd.

Today's event was the final tune-up for the Huskies before next week's Little East Conference Championship. The two-day event held at Riverside Golf Course in Portland will begin on Thursday morning at 11:20 am and will conclude on Friday.
