Jake Peavey (South China, Maine/Erskine Academy) and freshman
Jake Craig (Skowhegan, Maine) each posted individual records of 4-0 to help the University of Southern Maine Huskies to a perfect 4-0 mark at the 2022 Manganaro Duals hosted by Ursinus College in Collegeville, Pa.
Southern Maine opened its day with a 35-15 win over SUNY-Oneonta, and then earned a 24-23 win over Messiah University via tie-breaker. In the Huskies third match of the day, USM defeated Shippensburg 26-24, and then downed McDaniel 26-22. With the four wins, Southern Maine is now 6-2 in dual meet action.
How It Happened
- Ranked nationally by The Open Mat, D3wrestling, and the NWCA, Husky heavyweight and captain Jake Peavey remained undefeated on the season to improve to 11-0. Peavey had three wins by fall and one win by major decision in a dominant performance. Peavey's pin over Messiah's Hayden Benner (1:45) pulled USM even with Messiah and the Huskies were able to earn the dual meet win via tie-breaker procedure based upon points scored (42-41), rule 32.c.
- Peavey delivered wins for his team two more times, scoring the go-ahead points for a 26-24 win over Shippensburg. Earning four points with his 11-1 major decision win over Shippenburg's Connor Livingston, Peavey took USM from trailing 24-22 to winning 26-24.
- Against McDaniel, USM trailed 22-20 headed into the 285-lb match, and Peavey earned his third win by fall of the day, putting Auston Stewart to the mat in 1:16 for the win.
- In addition to a win by forfeit, Craig had two wins by technical fall and one by major decision to improve to 17-1 at 125 lbs.
- Sophomore Colby Frost (Buxton, Maine/Bonny Eagle) posting a 3-1 mark. Frost pinned Oneonta's Anderson Klosner in 6:04, and Messiah's Camerin Deville in 3:29 before earning a 11-7 decision over Shippenburg's Michael Trainor. He lone loss of the day came at the hands of no. 6 nationaly-ranked Thomas Monn of McDaniel -

Off for the semester break, the Huskies will return to action in the New Year and will travel to the Manganaro Duals at Ursinus College on Saturday, January 7 (10:00).
