Southern Maine Cross Country, Track and Field Adds Andrew Rose as Assistant Coach

GORHAM, Maine. – University of Southern Maine Head Cross Country and Track & Field Coach Rob Whitten has announced the hiring of Andrew Rose '21 as the new full-time assistant coach for the Huskies' combined program. Rose, who has served as a part-time assistant with the Huskies track and field program since 2021, will step into a new role that was created as a result of the merging of the men's and women's cross country and track and field programs under the direction of Whitten.

"As we move forward to fully combine the men's and women's programs, I'm extremely excited to have Andrew join the staff full-time to help that mission," said Whitten. "Andrew has worked with the programs in some capacity over the last three years and his responsibilities have grown to where he was an integral part of the two women's conference championship teams last year. He is an extremely knowledgeable and eager young coach that will be a great resource for our student-athletes. I'm excited to see how he can continue to help them succeed personally, academically and athletically."

In addition to his experience coaching the Huskies, Rose served as an assistant coach with the track and field programs at Cheverus High School in Portland, Maine from 2014-21. Coaching the sprinters, jumpers, and hurdles, Rose was elevated to the position of Associate Head Coach for Cheverus in 2018 and served in the role until 2021. While on staff at Cheverus, Rose helped guide the girls track team to five state championship titles from 2017-2019. During his tenure his athlete group broke 15 school records and 11 state records.

Rose graduated from Southern Maine in 2021 with a degree in health sciences.
