USM Women’s Ice Hockey to Participate in Out of the Darkness Walk

GORHAM, Maine – On Saturday, September 17 the University of Southern Maine women's ice hockey team will participate in the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention's Greater Portland Maine Area Out of the Darkness Walk.

The event, which will take place at 10:00 am at Fort Allen Park in Portland, Maine, is one of hundreds of fundraising walks nationwide that supports the fundraising efforts of the AFSP and its mission of saving lives and bringing hope to those
affected by suicide. In addition to fundraising the community walks represent an opportunity to unite communities, offer support to those affected by suicide, and raise awareness about the AFSP and suicide prevention.

This is the second year the Huskies' women's ice hockey will be involved in the event. Last year the team raised over $1,000 for the event, an amount that they have already exceeded in their efforts for this year's event. In addition to exceeding last year's total the team has nearly doubled their target fundraising goal of $750.
