GORHAM, Maine  – One hundred ninety-four of the approximately 450 University of Southern Maine student-athletes were announced as part of the Little East Conference Academic Honor Roll for the spring 2022 semester.  The conference office listed a total of 1,831 student-athletes competing in the conference's 21 championship sports from 16 full and associate Little East Conference member institutions as recipients of this academic distinction. 

To achieve LEC Academic Honor Roll status, a student-athlete must earn a semester grade point average of 3.00 or better and have been an active member of the team at the conclusion of their fall semester. The LEC Academic Honor Roll is one of two new academic recognition programs being introduced by the conference.  The LEC Team Academic Awards will debuted in 2021, and was preceded by the LEC Academic Honor Roll in 2020.

Husky student-athletes from each of the 19 Little East Conference championship sports sponsored by the University of Southern Maine (USM does not sponsor women's swimming & diving) were represented on the list.  One hundred eleven of the Huskies' honored are members of USM's 11 women's team, while 83 student-athletes were recognized from the 11 men's teams. Broken down by sport USM student-athletes achieving a 3.00 or better grade point average or better: baseball (19), men's indoor and outdoor track & field (28), men's basketball (7), men's cross country (9), men's golf (3) men's lacrosse (8), men's soccer (11), men's tennis (8), field hockey (18), women's basketball (11), women's cross country (7), women's indoor and outdoor track & field (26), softball (17), volleyball (10), women's tennis (5), women's lacrosse (12), and women's soccer (17). Of note there is some overlap with multi-sport student-athletes.

At the conclusion of the first semester, the University of Southern Maine Department of Athletics had a combined grade point average of 3.203 with 17 of its 22 sports having collective grade point averages of 3.00 or better.  This fall, the Department of Athletics recognized 215 student-athletes with its annual William B. Wise Scholar Athlete award.
