GORHAM, Maine – The third-seeded University of Southern Maine women's ice hockey team will host the sixth-seeded William Smith College Herons in the New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) Tournament Quarterfinals on Saturday, February 19 at 4pm in Gorham.

The Team: During the regular season, the Huskies posted an impressive 15-9 overall record and a 12-6 record in the NEHC. On home ice, the Huskies went 9-3. Southern Maine's offense this year has been fueled by leading goal scorer first-year
Madison Chagnon (St. Albans, Vt./Rice Memorial). Chagnon has 11 goals and four assists on the season for 15 points. Other key contributors include graduate student
Rylie Binette (Milan, NH./Berlin) and sophomore
Georgie Snow (Yarmouth Port, Mass./Dennis-Yarmouth), each with seven goals and five assists, and graduate student
Shannon Colbert (Manomet, Mass./Tilton School) with two goals and nine assists.
Three other Huskies reached the ten point mark this season, senior Shannon Douglas (Telford, England/Ontario Hockey Academy) and freshmen Ally Stymiest (Moncton, NB/The Mount Academy) and Jess MacLean (Red Point, NS/Rankin School of the Narrows).
The Huskies' defense has been led by record-setting goaltender Haley McKim (Moncton, NB/The Mount Academy). McKim set a new school record for number of shutouts in a season, collecting her sixth on Saturday at Salem State. McKim posted a .937 save percentage and a 1.96 goals against average during the regular season.
The Matchup: The Huskies and Herons matched up twice during the regular season with the Huskies picking up a 4-1 win and a 1-0 win.
The Herons' are led by the duo of Julianna Gong (Hingham, Mass.) and Emily Martino (Orange, Conn.), who have each put up 12 points on the season and Mia LaPlante (Framingham, Mass.) who has notched 11. LaPlante leads the team with seven goals, including two power play goals and a game winner.
Amanda Aalto (West Barnstable, Mass.) has started 13 of the Herons' 24 games in goals, posting a .927 save percentage and a 2.00 goals per game average.
