GORHAM, Maine   –  Senior Jake Peavey (South China, Maine/Erskine Academy) and freshman Jake Craig (Skowhegan, Maine) of the University of Southern Maine Huskies wrestling team each won their bracket to lead the Huskies to a third place finish at the 2022 Ted Reese Invitational Saturday afternoon at the Costello Sports Complex. 
 
Southern Maine scored 119.5 points to finish behind team champion Coast Guard (187.5 points) and runner-up Castleton University (168 points) in the 12-team invitational.  Southern Maine had eight grapplers finish in the top six of their division.
 
How It Happened

• Ranked no. 1 by NEWA at 285 and eighth in the country by NWCA and Open Mat, Peavey was dominant in his run up to the top podium spot at 285, opening with a pin over WPI's Lucas Wilson Wuestefeld in 1:44 and claiming first with a win by fall in the championship match putting Castleton's Abbas Abdulrahman to the mat in 2:13. 
• Presently ranked seventh by NEWA at 125, Craig went 3-0 with a technical fall, win by fall and a decision.  Craig defeated Castleton's Kaya Bogle 3-0 in the championship match. Bogle entered the match ranked fourth by NEWA.
• Senior Jeremy Sendrowski (Scarborough, Maine) placed third at 157 pounds, while junior Ethan Ford (North Andover, Mass.) and freshman Caden Frost (Steep Falls, Maine) both placed fourth at 133 and 141 pounds respectively. Sophomore Andrew Mears (Lawrence, Mass.) placed fourth at 197. 
• Sophomores Colby Frost (Steep Falls, Maine) and Owen Bufagna (Newton, NH) and freshman Magnus Heisler (Portland, Maine) each earned a sixth place finish at 149, 197 and 165 respectively.

 
Up Next:
The Huskies are back in action on Saturday (12:00 pm) when they travel to Castleton for a quad-meet with Plymouth State and Rhode Island College.
