SPRINGFIELD, Mass.   – Freshman Jake Craig (Norridgewock, Maine/Skowhegan), sophomore Colby Frost (Steep Falls, Maine/Bonny Eagle) and Anthony Mears (Lawrence, Mass./Central Catholic) and junior Ethan Ford (North Andover, Mass.) each earn a spot on the podium to lead the University of Southern Maine Huskies wrestling team to a seventh place finish at the 2022 Doug Parker Invitational hosted by Springfield College. Craig (125) and Frost (149) each won their respective weight bracket, while Ford (133) placed second and Mears took sixth (197).
 
Frost is earning the top spot in his division at an invitational for the second straight week, while Craig, who placed third last week at the Roger Williams Invitational, is earning his first top podium spot as a collegiate athlete. Craig was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Wrestler, knocking off the no. 3 ranked wrestler in the nation en route to his overall win. 
 
Southern Maine scored 83 points to place seventh in the 13-team field.  The United States Coast Guard Academy finished first as a team with 153 points, followed by host Springfield College in second with 110.5 points. 
 
How It Happened:

• Ranked seventh in region, Craig took down the first ranked wrestler in the New England region in the 125-pound semifinals defeating Springfield's Joseph Manginelli 3-1 to earn a spot in the championship bout.  Securing a title shot, Craig then defeated sixth-ranked David Yeah of Williams for the 125 bracket.
• Ranked ninth nationally and first in New England at 149 pounds, Frost went 4-0 to win his second consecutive invitational bracket, including a 4-2 decision over third-ranked Noah Caskey of the United States Coast Guard Academy for the championship. 
• Ford, ranked fifth in New England, won back-to-back matches by major decision, including a 9-0 rout over seventh ranked Shailen Savur of Wesleyan, to advance into the semifinals.  Ford earned a 5-4 decision over Trinity's Adam Schaeublin before falling to second-ranked Wilson Gomes of Bridgewater 7-6 in the final.
• Ranked seventh at 197 pounds, Mears earned his second podium spot in a row placing sixth after winning his first four matches consecutively, including a 6-2 win by decision over Plymouth State's Christian Kuechler to head into the championship semifinals.

The Huskies are back in action after the Thanksgiving break and will host its annual Ted Reese Invitational on Saturday, December 3 (10 am) at the Costello Sports Complex Fieldhouse. .
