GORHAM, Maine – Four individuals associated with the University of Southern Maine baseball team will be inducted into the Maine Baseball Hall of Fame on Sunday, October 23 as part of the class of 2022. The inductees with ties to the Huskies baseball program are
Ed Boyce, Kyle Kennison, Tip Fairchild and Ed McDonough.

Boyce has served as an assistant coach with the Huskies for 25 seasons and has been instrumental in the success of the program during that span. An expert pitching coach, Boyce has helped coach countless student-athletes to All-Conference, All-Region, and All-American honors.

Kennison pitched for the Huskies from 1994-96 and holds the program record for fewest hits allowed per nine innings at 6.12. Kennison was a dominant closer for the Huskies during his three seasons in Gorham and was named All-ECAC in 1995. In addition to being the program leader for fewest hits allowed per nine innings, Kennison held the career record for most strikeouts per nine innings (10.54) up until 2019 and held the single season record of 12.66 (44 in 29 innings) up until 2012. A 21
st round MLB draft pick by the Seattle Mariners in 1996, Kennison played three seasons in the minors rising as high as AAA before retiring. He earned his Bachelor's Degree in Criminology in 1996 and was inducted into the Husky Hall of Fame in 2009.

Fairchild '09 suited up for Southern Maine from 2003-05 before being drafted in the 12
th round of the 2005 MLB Draft by the Houston Astros. He went on to play five seasons in the Astros farm system reaching the AA level. While at Southern Maine Fairchild was a two-time New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) All-New England, ECAC Division III New England and All-Little East Conference selection and earned Third Team ABCA/Rawlings All-America honors in 2004. A true ace on the mound, Fairchild has the third lowest earned run average (2.62) in team history and is ranked 10th in career strikeouts with 158. He earned his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration in 2009 and was inducted into the Husky Hall of Fame in 2018.

McDonough played baseball for the University during its UMaine Portland-Gorham era and graduated in 1973. He has remained heavily involved with the sport of baseball working as an umpire. McDonough is in his 45th year as a member of the Western Maine Baseball Umpires Association and has worked countless high school and American Legion playoff games in the area. He also has umpired at the collegiate level and founded the Collegiate Baseball Umpires Association of Maine.

Founded in 1969 by Portland Press Herald sportswriter Vern Putney and baseball impresario John (Magnate) Haley, the Maine Baseball Hall of Fame is dedicated to preserving and promoting the rich history of baseball in Maine and honoring those who have had a lasting impact on it.

Boyce, Kennison, Fairchild and McDonough, along with the rest of the Maine Baseball Hall of Fame class of 2022, will be honored at a banquet at Holiday Inn by the Bay in Portland on Sunday, October 23.
