Box Score Tomaschek Scores Game Winner 13 Seconds into Extra Time
CHARLESTOWN, Mass. -- Senior Mark Tomaschek (Toms River, N.J.) scored his first goal of the season 13 seconds into overtime to give the visiting University of Southern Maine Huskies a 2-1 victory over the Suffolk University Rams in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) men's action Friday night at Horrigan Rink.
The win is the first of the season for the Huskies, snapping their five-game losing skid. The move to 1-5-0 overall and 1-4-0 in NEHC play. The Rams suffered their fourth straight loss, and second in overtime, to slip to 1-3-0 overall and 0-3-0 in conference play.
USM junior goalie Anthony D'Aloisio (Frisco, Texas) backstopped the win making 33 saves in the game, including 28 over the first two periods. Rookie goalie Nathan Pickett (Auburn, Mass.) stopped 24 shots in the Suffolk net.
The Huskies grabbed a 1-0 lead when senior Cody Braga (Middleboro, Mass.) scored his third goal of the season at 17:16 of the opening period. Senior Brock Padgham (Chilliwack, B.C.) and sophomore Adam Withers (Kenora, Ont.) were credited with the assists.
Suffolk potted the equalizer at 14:51 of the second period as sophomore Billy Roche (Braintree, Mass.) found the net behind D'Aloisio. Junior Joe Vingi (Johnson, R.I.) and sophomore Joe Feeney (Foxboro, Mass.) drew the assists.
Southern Maine travels to Johnson and Wales University on Saturday (4 p.m.) for an NEHC encounter. Suffolk will host New England College Saturday evening (7 p.m.).
