Box Score GORHAM, Maine -- Senior Jess Williamson (Goffstown, N.H.) had a match-high 16 kills as the University of Southern Maine women's volleyball team breezed past visiting Husson University 3-0 (25-11, 25-9, 25-5) in a non-conference match Tuesday evening at the Warren Hill Gymnasium.
The win snapped a three-match losing skid for the Huskies, and improved their overall record to 6-4. The Eagles dropped their fourth straight match sliding to 7-6 overall.
Williamson had a big night compiling a .467 attack percentage (16-2-30) as the Huskies had a season best .443 team attack percentage (36-5-70). Sophomore Kylee Austin (Saco, Maine) added eight kills on 13 attacks, senior Mo Raymond (Sanbornton, N.H./Winnisquam) had five kills on 11 attacks, and sophomore Faolain Harrington (Auburn, N.H./Pinkerton Academy) chipped in four kills on seven tries.
The Huskies strong serving kept the Eagles on their heels all match long and resulted in a season-high 16 service aces. Junior setter Nicole Schmitz (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham) served six aces to going along with her 25 assists.
Sophomore Jenna Graves (Corinth, Texas/Lake Dallas) had a team-high nine digs.
For Husson, senior Nia Arranaga (San Jose, Calif.) had three kills, all coming in the first set. Classmate Lindsay Chapman (Gorham, Maine) posted a team-high seven digs.
Southern Maine is on the road for its next match on Thursday (7:00 p.m.) at Nichols College. Husson is back in action tomorrow night (5:00 p.m.) hosting the University of Maine at Presque Isle.
