Williamson Leads Southern Maine Past Husson 3-0

Williamson and Nilson Post Double-Doubles

            BANGOR, Maine -- Sophomore outside hitter Jess Williamson (Goffstown, N.H.) posted her first double-double of the season Tuesday night to lead the University of Southern Maine volleyball team past Husson University 3-0 (25-16, 25-12, 25-14) in a non-conference match at Newman Gymnasium.

            The win was the third straight for the Huskies and improved their overall record to 3-2.  The Eagles dropped their second straight match to fall back to .500 at 3-3 overall.

            Williamson, last year's Little East Conference and ECAC Division III New England Rookie of the Year, posted 19 kills in 39 attacks and dug up 16 balls for her double-double.  Williamson had eight kills in the first set, and swung for four more in the second set.  After Husson closed to within five points, 19-14, in the third set, Williamson sparked a 6-0 run with three consecutive kills, and a solo block, to close out the match.

            Sophomores Mo Raymond (Sanbornton, N.H.) and Robbi Termentozzi (Grand Junction, Colo.), and junior Karina Zellou (Marshfield, Maine) combined for 20 kills to complement Williamson.  Raymond had eight kills while Termentozzi and Zellou each had six kills.

            Junior Megan Nilson (Granby, Conn.) and rookie Nicole Schmitz (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham) each had 17 assists as the Huskies posted a .288 attack percentage (44-12-111) in the match.  Nilson also had 12 digs to collect a double-double.  Senior Demi Ruder (Grand Junction, Colo.) led all players with 17 digs.

            Juniors Lindsay Chapman (Gorham, Maine) and Kristen Atwood (Cumberland, Maine/Greely) led the Eagles offense with four kills apiece.  Sophomores Nia Arranaga (San Jose, Calif.) and Marissa Johnson (Russell, N.Y./Edward Knox) had 10 assists apiece, and Chapman led the Eagles with 10 digs.

            Southern Maine is off until Saturday (11:00 a.m.) when Framingham State University and Newbury College visit the Hill Gymnasium for a tri-match.  Husson will travel to Northampton, Mass., this Friday and Saturday to take part in the Smith College Invitational.
