Saint Anselm Shuts Out Southern Maine 3-0

Box Score

GORHAM, Maine -- Sophomore Alison Quinn (Canton, Mass.) scored twice in the opening four minutes and senior goalie Lindsey Brown (Mounds View, Minn.) stopped 11 shots as the visiting Saint Anselm College Hawks shut out the University of Southern Maine Huskies 3-0 in an ECAC Women's East game Saturday afternoon at the USM Ice Arena.

With the win, the Hawks improved to 5-1-0 overall and 3-1-0 in league play.  The Huskies fell to 1-3-0 overall and in ECAC games.

Quinn gave the visitors the lead for good 1:26 into the opening period with her third goal of the season assisted by junior Sarah Geisinger (Willoughby, Ohio) and sophomore Alex Starzyk (Enfield, Conn.).  Two and a half minutes later, Quinn made it 2-0 converting a set-up from sophomore Martha Findley (Duxbury, Mass.).

Junior Jessica Galiczewski (Kings Park, N.Y.) made it 3-0 at the 15:15 mark when her shot from the blue line through a screen eluded USM senior goaltender Liz Bergstrom (Chanhassen, Minn.).  Sophomore Victoria Shea (Middleton, Mass.) did the work along the boards to get the puck to Galiczewski for the lone assist.

There was no scoring over the final two periods as Bergstrom and Brown closed the door and both sides played strong team defense.

Brown protected the lead throughout the game as her teammates limited the Huskies to just 11 shots on goal.  The shutout was the second of the season, and 13th of her career, for Brown.  Bergstrom finished the game stopping 16 shots.

Southern Maine is back in action next Friday (7:00 p.m.) hosting the University of New England for an ECAC Women's East match.  Saint Anselm returns home next weekend to host the University of Massachusetts Boston on Friday (4:00 p.m.) and Nichols College on Saturday (1:00 p.m.).
