HENNIKER, N.H. -- Sophomore Kailey Bubier (Auburn, Maine) scored at 12:48 of sudden death overtime to give the sixth-seeded University of Southern Maine Huskies a 1-0 victory over the third-seeded New England College Pilgrims Saturday night in a first-round game of the ECAC (Eastern College Athletic Conference) Women's East Championship Tournament.
The win advances the Huskies, 8-16-2 overall, to the semifinals next weekend at top-seeded Norwich University. The Huskies also avenged two regular-season losses at the hands of the Pilgrims who finish the season 12-8-6.
Bubier scored her team-leading 13th goal of the season when she knocked in the rebound of a shot by freshman Erin Banfield (Montpelier, Vt.). Banfield's initial shot was stopped by NEC junior goalie Teraysa White (Belgrade, Maine), but Bubier was able to get her stick on the rebound and push the puck past White. Rookie Courtney White (Medford, Mass.) also earned an assist.
Banfield had an apparent goal in the final minute of regulation played waved off sending the game into overtime.
USM rookie goaltender Jordan Lee (Colorado Springs, Colo.) stopped all 27 shots she faced to earn her third shutout of the season. White finished the game with 31 saves.
