GORHAM, Maine -- Junior goaltender Teraysa White (Belgrade, Maine) stopped 29 of 30 shots to backstop the New England College Pilgrims to a 2-1 victory over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in an ECAC (Eastern College Athletic Conference) Women's East game Saturday afternoon at the USM Ice Arena.

The win extends the Pilgrims unbeaten string to five games (3-0-2), and improves their record to 11-6-5 overall and 10-3-3 in the league.  The Pilgrims swept the season series fro the first time since the 2006-07 season after taking an earlier 3-1 decision at home in November.  The Huskies slide to 7-14-2 overall and 5-10-1 in league play.

White stopped every shot (10) the Huskies fired her way in the first period to protect a 1-0 lead courtesy of a goal from junior Kaleigh Costello (Hudson, N.H.) on the Pilgrims first shot of the game at 4:10.

The only shot that got past White came in the second period when senior Mary Vaughan (Brunswick, Maine) fired a shot from 30 feet out into the top half of the goal to tie the game at 1-1.

Just over two minutes later, the Pilgrims regained the lead for good as sophomore Samantha Hippern (Dover, N.H.) finished off a two-on-one by taking a pass from junior Chelsea Torrico (Mt. Washington, Mass.) and beating USM rookie goalie Jordan Lee (Colorado Springs, Colo.) from 15 feet out at 17:00.  The goal was Hippern's seventh of the season.

White and the Pilgrims' penalty killers protected the slim margin the rest of the way.  NEC had to kill off a full two-minute 5-on-3 situation early in the third period, and two other USM power plays during the period, to hang on for the win.

Southern Maine will finish the 2010-11 regular season next weekend with road games at Salve Regina University on Saturday (4:00 p.m.) and Holy Cross on Sunday (2:00 p.m.).  NEC concludes the regular season with home games against Saint Anselm College on Friday (4:00 p.m.) and the University of Massachusetts Boston on Saturday (1:00 p.m.).
