GORHAM, Maine -- Sophomore Kayte Holtz (New Berlin, Wis.) scored four goals Saturday afternoon to lead the Bowdoin College women's ice hockey team to a 6-2 win over the University of Southern Maine in a non-conference game at the USM Ice Arena.

The win extended the Polar Bears' unbeaten string to three games (2-0-1), and improved their overall mark to 7-3-1.  The Huskies dropped their second straight game to fall to 3-8-1 overall.

Holtz snapped a 2-2 tie at 13:37 of the second period with what proved to be the game-winning goal, tallying a short-handed goal assisted by classmate Kim Tess-Wanat (Fond du Lac, Wis.).  Holtz, who also had a goal in first period, lit the lamp twice in the opening 3:08 of the third period to become the first Bowdoin player to score four times in a game since Meghan Gillis accomplished the feat against Lake Forest in 2005.

In the opening period, the two teams combined for three goals in a span of three minutes.  Junior Dominique Lozzi (Reading, Mass.) gave Bowdoin a 1-0 lead at 6:02 with a power-play goal.  Sophomore Alex Smith (Winthrop, Mass.) equalized for USM at 7:16 with an unassisted goal.  Holtz restored Bowdoin's lead at 9:04 off assists from Tess-Wanat and senior Jill Campbell (Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia).  Tess-Wanat would finish the game with three helpers.

Junior Christen Hart (Saugus, Mass.), playing her first game of the season, tied the game for the Huskies with a power-play marker at 16:06.  Junior Lauren Whiting (Hampton, N.H.) earned the lone assist.

Rookie Mallory Andrews (Sheboygan, Wis.) netted the final goal of the game for Bowdoin at 12:55 of the third period.

Sophomore Kayla Lessard (Enfield, Conn.) earned the win in goal for Bowdoin stopping 16 shots.  Freshman Jordan Lee (Colorado Springs, Colo.) registered 25 saves for USM.

Southern Maine returns to the ice on Friday (4:00 p.m.) when it host Saint Anselm College for an ECAC Women's East game.  Bowdoin will play at Saint Anselm in a non-conference game on Tuesday (7:00 p.m.).
