NEW LONDON, Conn.-- Rookie goaltender Jordan Lee (Colorado Springs, Colo.) stopped a season-high 52 shots to lead the University of Southern Maine in a 3-3 overtime tie with Connecticut College on Saturday in a non-conference game at Dayton Arena.
The Huskies move to 4-12-2 with the draw. The Camels are 9-8-1. Both sides have seven regular season games remaining on their schedules.
Lee made eight saves in the five-minute overtime, and turned back 38 shots over the final two periods of regulation.
Senior Celia Medeiros (Portsmouth, R.I.), sophomore Ariel DiPasquale (Whitestone, N.Y.) and senior Kourtney Martin (Shawnee, Kan.) scored goals for Connecticut College. Sophomore goalie Amy Leichliter (West Chester, Pa.) stopped 27 shots in the draw.
Rookie Courtney White (Medford, Mass.) scored a pair of third-period goals as Southern Maine to overcome a two-goal deficit. Junior Kylie Blasen (Okemos, Mich.) added a second-period marker for the visitors.
The Camels carried a 2-0 lead after one and enjoyed a 3-1 advantage when Martin took a centering pass from senior Abby Hine (Madison, Conn.) and back-handed in a shot with 13.6 seconds remaining in the middle period.
But Southern Maine stormed back in the third period. With 14:40 remaining, White trimmed the lead to 3-2 when she took a cross-crease pass from junior Katie Paradis (Rochester, N.H.) for a goal. Sophomore Katie Davis (Woburn, Mass.) was credited with the second assist.
With 11:07 remaining, White supplied the equalizer with a rising wrist shot from the left circle for a power-play goal. Junior Lauren Whiting (Hampton, N.H.) had the lone assist.
Lee did everything she could to preserve the tie in an impressive third period between the pipes. With 5:57 to go, freshman Courtney Dumont (Lewiston, Maine) broke free and unloaded a bomb from the high-slot, but Lee was able to get her body on the blast and cover up the rebound.
In the overtime, the Camels enjoyed an 8-to-2 advantage in shots. However, the Huskies induced a turnover in the Camel zone with less than 10 seconds left and tested Leichliter with two shots from point-blank range.
Southern Maine will host Colby College this Tuesday night (7:00 p.m.) for a non-conference game. Connecticut College will visit Middlebury College Friday night (7:00 p.m.) in a NESCAC game in the Green Mountain State.
