NEW LONDON, Conn. -- Freshman Courtney Dumont (Lewiston, Maine) scored goals in each of the first two periods, and seniors Abby Hine (Madison, Conn.) and Brigid O'Gorman
(Eden, N.Y.) added scores as Connecticut College doubled up on the University of Southern Maine, 4-2, in a non-conference game at Dayton Arena Friday night.
The Camels improve to 9-8 with the win, while the Huskies fall to 4-12-1 in the setback.
Freshman Courtney White (Medford, Mass.) and junior Joanna Gaube (Woodstock, Conn.) scored goals for the Huskies. Rookie netminder Jordan Lee (Colorado Springs, Colo.) stopped 33 shots in the setback for the visitors.
After falling behind early on a goal from White at 5:34 of the first, the Camels scored the equalizer with 12:58 remaining in the period. Sophomore Molly Murphy (Woodstock, Conn.) fired a shot from the right point that Dumont redirected out in front for the score.
The Camels took the lead for good in the second period. Senior Kelsey Kirker (Milton, Vt.) set up Hine in the slot for a short-handed goal at 3:16.
With 9:18 remaining in the second, Dumont went top shelf for her second goal of the night and 13th marker of the season. Rookie Olivia Farrell (New York, N.Y.) made a terrific feed for her team-leading 10th assist on the tally. Sophomore Ariel DiPasquele (Whitestone, N.Y.) was credited with the second assist.
Southern Maine got one goal back on Gaube's power-play tally from above the left circle with 2:02 to go. But O'Gorman sealed the victory with an empty netter at 19:17.
Sophomore Amy Leichliter (Westchester, Pa.) stopped 10 of 11 shots and was relieved by junior Robin Edwards (Concord, Mass.), who played the final 3:57 of regulation to close out the win.
Connecticut College held a 44-12 advantage in shots on goal.
The two teams will meet again tomorrow afternoon at 3:00 p.m.
