GORHAM, Maine -- Freshman outside hitter Anabell Chang (Palm Springs, Calif./Beaumont) and senior right side hitter Kumiko Chow (Vancouver, B.C.) each had 10 kills to lead the University of Maine Fort Kent Bengals to a 3-1 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies Friday night in a non-conference women's volleyball match at Hill Gymnasium.
The Bengals defeated the Huskies 21-25, 25-22, 25-16 and 25-18 to improve to 4-2 overall. The Huskies, suffering their third straight defeat, fall to 2-10 with the loss.
Chang added seven service aces for UMaine Fort Kent. Freshman Savannah Kainani Ash (Waialua, Hawaii) orchestrated the Bengal attack passing off a match-high 18 assists and chipped in with nine service aces.
Southern Maine senior Shannon Shuttle (New Ipswich, N.H./Mascenic Regional) led the Huskies with six kills, 10 assists and five digs. Freshman middle hitter Meghan Rumore (Manchester, N.H./Manchester West) and senior opposite Danielle Netland (Cumberland, Maine/Greely) each had five kills. Rumore added six service aces, while Netland had four digs.
Southern Maine hosts Western Connecticut State University on Saturday (10:00 a.m.). UMaine Fort Kent travels to Anna Maria on Saturday (7:00 p.m.).
