GORHAM, Maine – Senior
Kyle Douin (Augusta, Maine/Cony) and freshman
Hayden Strout (Charleston, Maine/Foxcroft Academy) of the nationally-ranked University of Southern Maine Huskies' baseball team have each been recognized by the Little East Conference with weekly accolades following standout performances last week. Douin is earning LEC Player of the Week honors, while Strout has been named the Pitcher of the Week.
Now a two-time Player of the Week for the 2026 season (April 13, April 27), Douin hit an impressive .586 (17-for-29) during a six-game week for the Huskies that included three Little East Conference wins, and an 8-3 victory over No. 3 Salve Regina. Recording at least two hits in each of the six games, Douin had five doubles and four home runs for a 1.173 slugging percentage while picking up 16 RBI. Douin had home runs against Plymouth State, Salve Regina, Vermont State Castleton and Bates and has a team-leading 11 on the season and 35 in his career. Picking up at least two RBI in each game, Douin had four in a 23-5 win over PSU, and three in each win over Castleton on Saturday. Douin leads the Huskies in hitting with a .441 batting average (60-for-136) with 52 RBI. He has 11 doubles, four triples and 11 home runs this season.
Earning his first weekly award from the LEC this season, Strout earned the win for the Huskies over No. 3 Salve Regina. Firing six strong innings, Strout allowed just three earned runs, yielding seven hits and five walks to the Seahawks while striking out three. The Huskies' rookie started the game strong with a one-two-three top of the first, and pitched well throughout to limit the Seahawk offense to their lowest run-total of the season. Strout is 5-1 on the season in six starts with seven total appearances and 34.0 innings pitched. He has a 2.91 earned run average and has held his opponents to a .218 batting average.
Southern Maine returns to Little East Conference play on Tuesday (3:30 pm) at UMass Boston. The Huskies are at home against Husson University on Wednesday (3:30 pm) in non-conference action, and close out their regular-season with a Friday conference doubleheader against Eastern Connecticut State (12:00 pm) at Flaherty Field. The 2026 Little East Conference tournament begins on Wednesday, May 6-Saturday, May 9. The top six teams qualify, and the tourney will be played at the highest seed.
