Southern Maine Picks Up 16-6 Non-Conference Win Over Husson

GORHAM, Maine – Junior Eliza Pattershall (Readfield, Maine/Maranacook) scored four goals and had an assist to help the University of Southern Maine Huskies' women's lacrosse team to a 16-6 win over the Husson University Eagles on Tuesday evening in Gorham. Graduate student Katelyn D'Appolonia (Yarmouth, Maine) also had five points on three goals and two assists, while graduate student Anna Byers (Milford, Ct./Joseph A. Foran) had a hat trick and an assist.
 
The Huskies also had multiple-point games from senior Cierra Hill (Pembroke, N.H./Pembroke Academy), freshman Mariam DeLisle (Whitefield, Maine/Lincoln Academy) and senior Elaina Hanselmann (Sanford, Maine). Hill recorded two goals and two assists. DeLisle scored twice and had an assist. Hanselmann had one goal and one assist.
 
Freshman Sam Poulin (Gray, Maine/Gray-New Gloucester) also scored a goal, while junior Ella Burnell (Biddeford, Maine) logged an assist. Junior goalie Maggie Jones (St. John's, Newfoundland/Mount Academy) made three saves in the first half to earn the win. Husson's Salin Bachor made eight saves in the loss.
 
Kate Boehmcke scored three of the Husson goals. Averi Baker tied with Boehmcke for the most points on the Eagles with three after scoring twice and assisting on a goal.

How It Happened:
  • Southern Maine scored nine goals in the opening quarter with seven of them coming before Husson scored for the first time. D'Appolonia and Byers each had hat tricks in the quarter in addition to an assist. Hill assisted on two goals and Pattershall scored twice.
  • Hill scored twice in the span of 14 seconds in the second quarter to extend the lead to 11-1. An up goal by Pattershall made the score 12-2 before back-to-back up goals by Baker and Laela Martinez cut the lead to 12-3 with 4:33 left in the half. Pattershall added another goal to bring the lead back up to 10 goals entering halftime.
  • Hanselmann and DeLisle each scored as the Huskies outscored the Eagles 2-1 in the third quarter. Pattershall assisted on Hanelmann's goal and D'Appolonia had the assist on DeLisle's score. The lone Husson goal was another up goal by Boehmcke with an assist by Reese Sullivan.
  • Husson outscored the Huskies 2-1 in the final 15 minutes with an up goal by Boehmcke and a goal by Baker with 18 seconds left. DeLisle added a goal for the Huskies.
 
Inside The Stats:
  • Husson scored four of their six goals while on the up. The Huskies scored two up goals and went 2-for-2 on free position shots.
  • Southern Maine had a 13-11 lead in draw controls led by seven from D'Appolonia.
  • The Huskies led 24-9 in shots on goal and 23-11 in ground balls.
  • Sophomore Ella Scaggs (West Chesterfield, N.H./Keene) led the Huskies with five ground balls and caused three turnovers. Sophomore Calista Kinney (Topsham, Maine/Mt. Ararat) also caused three turnovers.
  • DeLisle led the Huskies with four caused turnovers.
