No. 23 Williams Defeats Southern Maine 20-6

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – Franny Donohue scored four goals and had four assists for the No. 23 Williams College Ephs on Wednesday evening in a 20-6 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies' women's lacrosse team. Senior Cierra Hill (Pembroke, N.H./Pembroke Academy) led the Huskies with three points on a goal and two assists. Graduate student Katelyn D'Appolonia (Yarmouth, Maine) had a goal and an assist.
 
Freshman Mariam DeLisle (Whitefield, Maine/Lincoln Academy), graduate student Anna Byers (Milford, Ct./Joseph A. Foran), junior Eliza Pattershall (Readfield, Maine/Maranacook) and freshman McKenna Nanartowich (Springvale, Maine/Sanford) also scored for Southern Maine.
 
Katy McCullough and Paige Nelson each scored three goals for Williams.
 
Freshman goalie Emma Morrison (Rockland, Maine/Kents Hill) made a career-high 10 saves for the Huskies.

Today's game was the first time the two schools have played each other.

Southern Maine: Emma Morrison (4-2), 60:00, 20 goals allowed, 10 saves
Williams: Charlotte Cote (2-1), 45:00, four goals allowed, two saves
Williams: Savoy McMahon, 15:00, two goals allowed, one save
 
How It Happened:
  • Williams led 7-2 after the first quarter with Donohue recording two goals and three assists in the period. The Huskies had goals from Byers and D'Appolonia with Hill providing the assist on Byers' goal.
  • After an up goal by the Ephs to start the second quarter, the Huskies cut the lead to 8-4 with back-to-back goals by Hill and Pattershall. However, Williams ended the half on a 5-0 run to take a 13-4 lead into halftime.
  • Williams scored the only two goals of the third quarter to make their lead 15-4.
  • DeLisle and Nanartowich scored in the fourth quarter for the Huskies while the Ephs had five goals in the period.
 
Inside The Stats:
  • Williams led 23-9 in shots on goal and 24-4 in draw controls.
  • Southern Maine led 19-14 in ground balls led by four each from Pattershall and Morrison.
  • Pattershall also led the Huskies in caused turnovers with three.
 
Up Next:
The Huskies will host Vermont State University Castleton on Saturday at 11:00 am in their first Little East Conference game of the season.
