How It Happened: Game One – Southern Maine vs. Alverno
- Southern Maine rapped out 13 hits, including six for extra bases, and used a strong two-hit performance from sophomore Mia Coots (Newport, Maine/Nokomis) in the circle to earn the 8-0 five-inning win over the Inferno.
- The Huskies jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Southern Maine collected four hits in the inning, including doubles from freshmen Emily Wheeler (Old Town, Maine) and senior Mackenzie Renner (Alton, NH/Prospect Mountain). Wheeler started the inning with a double, and senior Olivia Levasseur (Amesbury, Mass.) moved her up to third with a single to the gap in left. Renner followed with a double down the left field line moving Levasseur to third and Wheeler home. Senior Ella Bezanson (Amesbury, Mass.) drove in the second run of the inning with a sacrifice fly to right before senior Kristina Yebba (Danvers, Mass.) made it a 3-0 game with an RBI single up the middle.
- After a 1-2-3 inning to start the game, Coots continued and retired the next four batters consecutively before yielding a one-out infield single in the top of the third. Coots completed the inning getting the next two outs keeping Southern Maine up 3-0 headed into the bottom of the third.
- Southern Maine added four more runs in the home half of the third to take a commanding 7-0 lead. Renner led off the inning with a single, and the Huskies had runners on second and third after an Alverno fielding error and a sac bunt from Yebba. With one out, junior Brianna Grenier (Cumberland, RI) knocked a two-run RBI to the gap in right. Grenier then came around to score on an RBI single from sophomore Emma Ingalls (Newport News, Va./Menchville). Back-to-back pinch-hit singles led to the Huskies' final run as Brielle Foote (Derry, NH/Pinkerton Academy) had a single to left, and freshman Addison Hawthorne (Newport, Maine/Nokomis Regional) picked up the RBI with a single up the middle.
- Coots retired the next five batters consecutively before yielding her second and last hit of the game, a two-out single to center field in the top of the fifth, but again came back to erase the threat with an infield pop out.
- Southern Maine earned the eight-run rule in the bottom of the fifth as Ingalls doubled to left to start the inning. With a runner in scoring position, Foote laid down a solid sacrifice bunt for a runner on third before USM scored its eighth run on a two-out infield error.
Game Two - Southern Maine vs. Edgewood
- With an outstanding two-hit performance from junior Camdyn Johnson (West Bath, Maine/Morse) in the circle, the Huskies used a four-run top of the fourth to take a 4-0 win over the Edgewood College Eagles.
- Locked in a strong pitcher's dual through the first three innings, Johnson kept the Eagles off the scoreboard. With a runner on second after a walk and a fielding error, Johnson got the next two outs to keep the game at 0-0, and in the third Johson earned two of her five strikeouts in the game. Edgewood starter Ariana Macias was also solid in the opening innings retiring six straight into the third inning before yielding an infield single to Husky Aislin Davis. However, Macias got the final two outs sending the game into the fourth at 0-0.
- The Huskies' bats came alive in the fourth for four hits and four runs. Levasseur and Renner led off the inning with back-t-back base hits. Ingalls reached on a fielder's choice play to load the bases before Bezanson earned the RBI on a second fielder's choice play that cut down a Husky runner headed to third. Up 1-0 and with one-away, Yebba's ground out gave USM runners on second and third with two outs, setting the table for Grenier. On the fourth pitch of the at-bat, Grenier drove in three runs with her first career home run as a Husky launching the ball to center field.
- With a 4-0 lead in hand, Johnson continued her strong outing. Johnson ended the fourth inning on her fourth strikeout of the game, and in the fifth with a runner on second, Johnson got her fifth strikeout and a ground out to send the game to the sixth up 4-0.
- In the sixth, Alverno collected its first hit of the game off of Johnson, a two-out single to right from Grace Dooley, but Johnson ended any threat with another ground out. And in the bottom of the seventh, Johnson battled back from a one-out walk and single to get the final two outs for the 4-0 victory.
