How It Happened: Game One – Southern Maine vs. Framingham State
- Coots started strong retiring the first three batters consecutively, including an inning ending strikeout. Southern Maine took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Southern Maine used back-to-back singles from Avery Moore and Wheeler and an RBI single from senior Mackenzie Renner (Alton, NH/Prospect Mountain) to jump ahead 1-0.
- Despite a quite second from the Huskies, Coots continued to deal and retired the Ram batters in order in the top of the second and third. In the third, Coots had two strikeouts to help retire nine consecutively.
- The Huskies put up three runs in the third inning to lead 4-0. Wheeler tripled to right field to start the inning and scored on an RBI single to left from Levasseur. After one out, senior Kristina Yebba (Danvers, Mass) doubled to left to make it runners on second and third for Husky senior Ella Bezanson (Amesbury, Mass.). With two on, Bezanson picked up an RBI with a single to center and moved Levasseur to third. The Huskies then scored their final run of the inning on error as pinch-hitter Emma Ingalls (Newport News, Va./Menchville) put the ball into play in the infield.
- Framingham State collected all four of its hits of the game in the top of the fourth to score to runs and trail 4-2. With one out, the Rams got three consecutive singles from Isabella MacDonald, Eliza Carignan and Jocelyn Pepe before Amanda Roche knocked a double. Carignan's single pushed the first run across on an RBI while Roche's double to center drove in the second. With runners on second and third, Coots settled back in and got a pop up and a strikeout to keep her team ahead 4-2.
- Southern Maine had the bases loaded in the fourth but was unable to score, and in the top of the fifth Coots made it three up, three down including her sixth strikeout of the game.
- The Huskies added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth. Junior Brianna Grenier (Cumberland, RI) led off with a double to start the four-hit inning. Moore had an RBI fielder's choice in the inning, while Levasseur singled to center field for the other RBI.
- Up 6-2, Coots took care of the rest getting the next six outs consecutively and closed the game on her eighth strikeout.
