Southern Maine Cruises to 18-5 Win over UMaine Farmington

GORHAM, Maine – Graduate student Katelyn D'Appolonia (Yarmouth, Maine) recorded nine points on five goals and four assists for the University of Southern Maine Huskies' women's lacrosse team in an 18-5 win over the UMaine Farmington Beavers on Saturday afternoon in Gorham. Senior Cierra Hill (Pembroke, N.H./Pembroke Academy) tallied six points on three goals and three assists, while freshman Mariam DeLisle (Whitefield, Maine/Lincoln Academy) had a hat trick.
 
Graduate student Anna Byers (Milford, Ct./Joseph A. Foran) and junior Eliza Pattershall (Readfield, Maine/Maranacook) had multiple points as well with Byers scoring twice and Pattershall recording a goal and an assist. Freshmen Eve Ariskin (Manchester, Maine/Maranacook), Sam Poulin (Gray, Maine/Gray-New Gloucester) and McKenna Nanartowich (Springvale, Maine/Sanford) each scored their first career goals as well in the win.
 
Freshman goalie Emma Morrison (Rockland, Maine/Kents Hill) picked up the win after starting in goal. All three Southern Maine goalies saw action as junior Maggie Jones (St. John's, Newfoundland/Mount Academy) played two quarters and sophomore Cally Dow (Lewiston, Maine) played the third quarter in goal.

How It Happened:
  • Ruby McMinis scored the first goal of the game for the Beavers before the Huskies went on 5-0 run to end the quarter. D'Appoloina had two of the five goals and assisted on another. Hill had a goal and an assist. DeLisle scored twice as well.
  • DeLisle completed her hat trick in the second quarter and the Huskies also had a goal by Pattershall to take a 7-1 lead into halftime.
  • The Beavers fought back with four goals in the third quarter. However, the Huskies scored six times in the quarter to make the lead 13-5 heading into the final 15 minutes. Three of Farmington's goals came on the up. Junior Ella Burnell (Biddeford, Maine) scored on a free position shot. D'Appolonia had two goals and two assists in the quarter. Hill recorded a goal and an assist.
  • The Huskies outscored the Beavers 5-0 in the final quarter for the 18-5 final with Ariskin and Nanartowich each netting their first career goal.
 
Inside The Stats:
  • The Huskies dominated in both shots and shots on goal at 43-9 and 31-8.
  • Southern Maine won 18 of the 25 draw controls led by seven from D'Appolonia. Pattershall was second on the team with four followed by Byers with three.
  • Sophomore Calista Kinney (Topsham, Maine/Mt. Ararat) led the Huskies in ground balls with five. D'Appolonia and Hill each had three.
  • Kinney and Britney Hill (Pembroke, N.H./Pembroke Academy) each caused five turnovers.
