Christian Burke Won the DIII New England Title in the Heptathlon

Burke Wins Heptathlon Title at DIII New England Championships; D’Amico Places Second

MEDFORD, Mass. – Seniors Christian Burke (York, Maine) and Michael D'Amico (Caribou, Maine) of the University of Southern Maine men's track & field program took the top two spots on the podium in the heptathlon on Saturday at the NCAA Division III New England Championships at Tufts University. Burke is the first Husky to win the New England title in the event since C.J. Moody in 2019.
 
Burke's score of 4,822 points ranks fourth in program history behind three performances by Moody. This converted score of 4,846 points ranks 17th nationally. D'Amico's score of 4,779 points ranks fifth in program history and his converted total of 4,803 points ranks 19th in NCAA DIII.
 
Burke was the top performer in the high jump (1.97m) and long jump (6.32m). His high jump mark of 1.97m is a personal-best and puts him eighth on the program's leaderboard. He also set personal-best in the 60-meter hurdles at 8.81 seconds and the 1000 meters with a time of 3:08.17. He now ranks seventh in program history in the 60-meter hurdles. Both Burke and D'Amico tied for first in the pole vault at 4.45m.
 
D'Amico placed second in the 60-meter hurdles (8.76 seconds), the high jump (1.91m) and the 1000 meters (2:49.18) with personal-best marks in each event. He also set a personal-best in the 60-meter dash at 7.44 seconds. His 60-meter hurdles time ties him for fifth on the program leaderboard.
