Gabe Lash (Waldoboro, Maine/Medomak Valley) of the University of Southern Maine Huskies' men's basketball team has been named the Maine Men's Basketball Coaches & Writers Association (MMBCWA) Rookie of the Week.
Earning Little East Conference Rookie of the Week honors on Monday, Lash, a three-time LEC weekly award winner, is earning MMBCWA Rookie of the Week honors for the first time this season, and joins teammate
Carter Galley (Kents Hill, Maine/Oceanside). Galley has earned MMCBWA honor three times.
In the Huskies' lone contest of the week, a 90-70 win over VTSU-Castleton in Little East Conference action, Lash had 12 points, three rebounds, an assist and two blocked shots while shooting 5-for-9 from the field. Playing and starting in 25 games in his rookie season, Lash is averaging 9.6 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.2 steals per game for the Huskies, and is shooting a solid 42.4 percent (73-for-172) from the field and is shooting at a 35.6 percent clip (21-for-59) from three-point range. Lash has scored in double-figures in 13 games and has a season-high 21 points in a 101-86 win over Rhode Island College earlier this season.
Southern Maine (16-9 overall, 11-5 Little East) earned the no. 4 seed for the upcoming 2026 Little East Conference Men's Basketball Championship Tournament. The Huskies will host No. 5 Eastern Connecticut on Wednesday, February 25 (7:00 pm). The winner will advance to the semifinals on Friday and face No. 1 seed WestConn.
