Southern Maine Falls to No. 9 Babson 5-1

GORHAM, Maine – The Babson College Beavers defeated the University of Southern Maine Huskies' men's ice hockey team by a score of 5-1 on Saturday afternoon in Little East Conference action. Babson's Jimmy Fallon recorded a hat trick, while Will Holland and Egan Schmitt each had two assists. Junior captain Ethan MacDuff (Lloydminster, Alberta) scored in the third period to end the shutout bid by Babson goalie Nate Mueller with a goal that was assisted by senior John Hagan (Canton, Mass./Tilton School) and freshman Ben Aucoin (Moncton, New Brunswick).
 
Southern Maine goalie Loic Morin (Drummondville, Quebec) made 40 saves for the Huskies in the loss.

How It Happened:
  • After nearly 18 minutes of scoreless action, Fallon finally broke through for the Beavers to give them a 1-0 lead with 2:27 left in the first period. The Huskies
  • Babson added three more goals in the second period to extend their lead. Sean Senier scored the first of the three followed by a pair of power play tallies from Fallon to get his hat trick. Holland assisted on both power play goals.
  • MacDuff scored on a set up from Hagan with 7:52 left in regulation but the Beavers put the game away with goal by Mike Stevens with less than five minutes to go.
 
Inside The Stats:
  • Babson outshot the Huskies 45-24 and led 37-27 in faceoff wins.
  • The Huskies went 0-for-2 on the power play. Babson had six power players and scored on two of them.
  • Seniors Cole Brennan (Sussex, N.J./ Pomfret School) and Kadin Ilott (Kenora, Ontario) each blocked four shots to tie for the team lead. Senior Conor Donovan (Nahant, Mass./Swampscott) blocked three shots.
