Gabe Lash (Waldoboro, Maine/Medomak Valley) of the Unviersity of Southern Maine Huskies' men's basketball team has been named the Little East Conference Rookie of the Week. Lash is the second Huskies' rookie to earn the weekly award this season, joining classmate
Carter Galley (Owls Head, Maine/Oceanside) who has earn the award twice.
Lash averaged 16.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.5 steals per game in a 1-1 week in Little East Conference action for Southern Maine, shooting 64.3 percent from the field and 60.0 percent from three. In a 77-69 win at Plymouth State, Lash was 5-for-7 for 17 points, adding four rebounds and two steals. Lash scored 11 of his 17 in the second half against PSU. In a loss at WestConn, Lash had 16 points, five rebounds and three steals.
Playing and starting in 18 games in his rookie season, Lash is averaging 9.1 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.1 steals per game for the Huskies, and is shooting a solid 43.0 percent (49-for-114) from the field and is shooting at a 34.9 percent clip (15-for-43) from three-point range. Lash has scored in double-figures in nine games (the last four consecutively) and has a season-high 21 points in a 101-86 win over Rhode Island College earlier this season.
Southern Maine (11-7 overall, 6-3 Little East) hosts UMass Boston on Wednesday, January 28 (7:30 pm). The Huskies are currently tied for second place in the LEC regular season standings.
