Nor’easters Defeat Huskies 5-2

BIDDEFORD, Maine – The University of New England Nor'easters defeated the University of Southern Maine Huskies 5-2 on Thursday afternoon in the Biddeford. The Huskies earned the doubles point thanks to 7-5 wins by No. 1 doubles pair sophomore Alyssa Conley (Windham, Maine) and senior Abby Emerson (Gorham, Maine) and the No. 2 team of freshman Payton Thibodeau (Gorham, Maine) and fifth-year senior Hanni Johnson (Livermore, Maine/Spruce Mountain).
 
Thibodeau also earned a three-set win at No. 2 singles winning the first set 6-2 before dropping the next set 7-6 (7-4). She then won the tiebreaker 10-7. Johnson's No. 3 singles match also went three sets as she rebounded from a 7-5 loss in the first set to tie the match with a 6-1 win before falling 10-2 in the tiebreaker.
 
Today's match was the first-ever between the two local schools as UNE is in their inaugural season sponsoring women's tennis.
