GORHAM, Maine – Freshman Alexis Hayward (Acton, Maine/Stanford) earned her first career singles win as the University of Southern Maine Huskies' women's tennis team earned a dominant 7-0 Little East Conference win over the Western Connecticut State University Wolves on Saturday morning in Gorham. The Huskies won eight of the nine matches with WestConn's only win coming at No. 3 doubles. Today's win if the first for the Huskies against the Wolves since 2018.
 
No. 1 doubles pair of Abby Emerson (Gorham, Maine) and sophomore Alyssa Conley (Windham, Maine) had a 6-2 win while and senior and the No. 2 team of freshman Payton Thibodeau (Gorham, Maine) and fifth-year senior Hanni Johnson (Livermore, Maine/Spruce Mountain) won their match 6-1.
 
The Huskies then swept the singles portion of the match. Emerson defeated her opponent 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles in her first singles match of the season. Conley, playing in the No. 2 spot for the first time this season, was a 6-2, 6-0 winner. Thibodeau had a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles while Johnson overcame a first set loss to win her match 3-6, 6-2, 13-11. Senior Muriel Lattin (Litchfield, Maine/Winthrop) won her match 7-5, 7-5 at No. 5 singles and Hayward took down her opponent 6-3, 3-6, 7-2 for her first career win.
