GORHAM, Maine – Three members of the University of Southern Maine Huskies' baseball team have earned 2024-2025 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honors. Earning the academic distinction were senior Anthony Poole (South Portland, Maine), junior Kyle Douin (Augusta, Maine/Cony) and sophomore Mike Anquillare (North Haven, Conn.)
To be eligible for Academic All-District recognition student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically with a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher. They also must have competed in 90 percent or started in 66 percent of their institution's games. For softball pitchers, it is 17 appearances or 25 innings pitched. The 2024-25 Academic All-District Softball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in competition and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
An ABCA first team All-Region selection as the Huskies' first baseman, Douin continued to excel on and off the field for the Huskies, earning Maine College Baseball & Softball Association (MCBSA) first team All-State honors as well as first team All-Little East Conference honors at the conclusion of the 2025 season. Now a two-time first team All-Region selection from the ABCA, Douin delivered another remarkable year, leading the Huskies both offensively and defensively. At the plate, he hit .372 with 54 hits in 145 at-bats, recording 11 doubles, two triples, and seven home runs. He led the team in batting average, walks (26), slugging percentage (.621), total bases (90), hits, and runs scored (42). Douin also tied for the team lead in doubles and fielded at an elite level, posting a .990 percentage with 265 putouts and 13 double plays. Douin leads the LEC in on-base percentage and ranks top six in batting average, slugging, runs scored, and hits.
In three seasons with the Huskies, Douin has played in 115 games with a career .355 batting average. He has 166 hits, including 36 doubles, 10 triples and 25 home runs for a career slugging percentage of .635. Driving in at least 30 RBI each season, Douin has 166 RBI. Douin's 25 career home runs are tied for ninth in Husky record books, while his 166 RBI are eight all-time. A three-time All-LEC selection, earning Player of the Year honors in 2025, Douin earned third team College Sports Communicators NCAA Division III Academic All-America honors. He is completing his degree in Mechanical Engineering.
The Huskies' starting leftfielder, Anquillare had a tremendous season defensively and was a valuable create at the plate. Hitting .320 with 48 hits in 150 at-bats in his debut season with Southern Maine, Anquillare had 10 doubles, three home runs and drove in 28 RBI. Posting 14 games with at least two hits, Anquillare had five games with at least three hits, including a 3-for-5 performance with three RBI and three runs scored in a 15-9 win at Bates College. In left field, Anquillare was nearly flawless defensively, finishing with an outstanding .989 fielding percentage and 83 putouts and four assists while starting all 39 games. Anquillare is a Secondary Education major.
Earning first-team MCBSA All-State honors as the Huskies' centerfielder, Poole also earned second team All-Litlte East Conference honors. Poole led the Huskies' outfield hitting .325 with 50 hits in 154 at-bats, tying Douin for the team lead in doubles (11) and runs scored (42). He added two triples, a home run, and led the Huskies with nine stolen bases. Defensively, Poole maintained a .967 fielding percentage, registering 86 putouts in center field. A two-time All-LEC outfielder, Poole earned 2024 D3baseball and ABCA All-Region third team honors. A Marketing major, Poole is now a two-time College Sports Communicator Academic All-District student-athlete.
The Huskies finished the season with a 20-19 record and an 11-5 mark in the Little East Conference (fourth place).
