Huskies Fall to Thoroughbreds 3-1

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Freddie Ilias and Kaeden Patrick each had two assists for the Skidmore College Thoroughbreds in a 3-1 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies on Saturday evening. Ryan Waltman also had two points with a goal and an assist. Freshman Gage LeTourneau (Presque Isle, Maine) scored for Southern Maine with classmates Danny Caputo (Lanoka Harbor, N.J.) and Ryan Pappalardo (Salem, N.H.) providing the assists. The goal is the first of his career.

Today's game was the 47th meeting between the two teams. The Huskies lead the series 22-20-5.
 
The Goaltenders:
Southern Maine: Kyle Penton (4-5-1): 59:08, three goals allowed, 41 saves
Skidmore: Joshua Seeley (7-4-0), 60:00, one goal allowed, 27 saves
 
How It Happened:
  • After a scoreless first period, Waltman scored on the power play 6:12 into the second period to give the home team a 1-0 lead. Patrick and Ilias recorded assists. The Huskies tied the game a little over five minutes later on a second effort shot by LeTourneau that trickled under Seeley and into the net.
  • Skidmore took the lead on a Jacob Zwirecki goal from Ilias and Oscar Worob. The lead was extended to 3-1 1:33 later thanks to an Evan Brown power-play goal with assists by Patrick and Waltman.
 
Inside The Stats:
  • Skidmore led 44-28 in shots on goal while the Huskies had a 39-31advantage in faceoff wins.
  • Senior Mathieu Sabourin (Alexandria, Ontario) went 14-for-25 on draws to lead the Huskies. Three of the four centers for Southern Maine had a positive winning percentage on faceoffs. Junior Conor Donovan (Nahant, Mass./Swampscott) went 10-for-15 and Pappalardo finished 6-for-10.
  • LeTourneau also blocked three shots in the game.
