GORHAM, Maine   -  Freshmen Carter Galley (Owls Head, Maine/Kents Hill/Oceanside) has been named the Maine Men's Basketball Coaches and Writers Association (MMBCWA) Rookie of the Week for the period ending November 30, 2024.  Galley is the first Husky to earn weekly honors this season.  Sophomore Evans Sterling (New Sharon, Maine/Mt. Blue) was recognized on the weekly player honor roll.
 
Galley averaged 18.5 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.5 asssits per game as the Huskies split their week's games with a narrow 80-72 loss at Bates College before snagging a thrilling 91-83 win over Saint Joseph's College (Maine) in overtime for the 2025 Costello Cup.  A first-year guard, Galley came off the Huskies bench and shot 56 percent (14-for-25) from the field, including a 3-for-9 effort from three points range.  Galley had 18 points, five rebounds and two assists at Bates, and in the win over SJC, he had 19 points, three assists and a steal.  Galley had six of his 19 in the overtime period in which Southern Maine outscored the Monks 18-10.
 
Playing in each of the Huskies seven games, Galley is averaging 13.1 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game while shooting a solid 53.8 percent (35-for-65) from the field. 
 
Southern Maine begins its Little East Conference schedule on the road on Wednesday, December 3 (7:30 pm) at UMass Boston, and then hosts WestConn on Saturday, December 6 (3:00 pm). The Huskies final home game of 2025 is on Wednesday, December 10 (7:30 pm) in a non-conference match-up with UMaine Farmington.
