Pilgrims Shutout Huskies 3-0

GORHAM, Maine – Egor Osipik scored twice, and Jack Herron had three assists as the New England College Pilgrims defeated the University of Southern Maine Huskies 3-0 on Friday evening in Gorham. Jakub Rusina, Paul Waldhauser and Zach Nelson recorded assists as well. Anthony Beaulieu made 26 saves to earn the win.

Southern Maine: 5-9-1 (2-8-1 NEHC)

Tonight's game was the 55th meeting between the two teams. The Pilgrims led the series 41-7-7.

New England College: Anthony Beaulieu (5-8-1), 60:00, no goals allowed, 26 saves
Southern Maine: Kyle Penton (4-4-1): 60:00, three goals allowed, 33 saves
 
How It Happened:
  • The Pilgrims scored twice in the first period with Osipik and Jesper Tarkiainen finding the back of the net. Tarkiainen's score came on the power play.
  • Osipik scored again 8:44 into the second period with assists by Herron and Nelson.
  • The 3-0 score held after a scoreless third period in which Penton made 10 saves and Beaulieu made nine.
 
Inside The Stats:
  • The teams combined for 10 penalties total.
  • The Huskies led 35-30 in faceoffs wins led by 14 by senior Zach Desmarais (St. Cyrille, Quebec). Freshman Ryan Pappalardo (Salem, N.H.) also had a great day at dot going 11-for-13 on draws.
  • Junior Cole Brennan (Sussex, N.J./ Pomfret School) led the Southern Maine defense with four blocked shots. One of those blocks came on a 5-on-3 when he quickly prevented the puck from entering the net. Freshman Gage LeTourneau (Presque Isle, Maine) and junior Kadin Ilott (Kenora, Ontario) each blocked three shots.
