GORHAM, Maine –
Sage Drinkwater (Steep Falls, Maine/Bonny Eagle), ,
Jordan Cummings (Auburn, Maine/Edward Little) and
Brooke Carson (Bryant Pond, Maine/Oxford Hills) of the University of Southern Maine Huskies field hockey team have been selected to the 2024 National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Watch List.
The Huskies on the list are three of 181 intercollegiate student-athletes from 75 Division III institutions who are placed on the 2024 NFHCA Watch List. The list is intended to represent those student-athletes with the strongest potential for consideration to this year's NFHCA All-Region and All-American teams (the list does not constitute a nomination or selection, and student-athletes not listed remain eligible).
A two-time NFHCA All-Region selection (2021, 2022), Drinkwater is a three-time All-Little East Conference (2021, 2022, 2023) forward and was the conference's rookie of the year in 2021. The Huskies' leading scorer in 2023 with 11 goals and nine assists for 31 points, Drinkwater had three game-winning goals during her junior campaign. In three seasons with the Huskies, Drinkwater has 37 goals and 19 assists for 93 points in 70 career games.
An All-Little East Conference forward in 2022 and 2023, Carson is the Huskies' second-leading scorer from a season ago with 12 goals and six assists for 30 points. Four of Carson's 12 goals went for game-winners, including two against Little East Conference opponents. In 69 career games, Carson has 37 goals and 15 assists for 89 points.
Cummings, a 2022 and 2023 NFHCA All-Region pick, repeated as the Little East Conference Defensive Player of the Year (2022, 2023). Recording four defensive saves in the 2023 season, Cummings added a goal and an assist. Cummings is one of just two Husky field hockey players to earn Defensive Player of the Year honors in the program's history, playing a critical role in Southern Maine's first conference championship in 20 seasons and back-to-back regular season LEC titles (2022, 2023), spearheading a stingy defense that finished the LEC regular season undefeated (6-0), and limited its opponents to a 1.46 goals against average.
Southern Maine, the 2023 LEC regular season and tournament champions, were picked to finish first in the 2024 Little East Conference preseason coaches' poll. Playing a challenging out-of-conference schedule, the Huskies were 15-8 overall and 6-0 in the Little East a season ago.
