HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • In an evenly played first half, Southern Maine and Wellesley were locked in a scoreless game at the half. The Huskies earned seven of their 11 penalty corners in the game in the first two quarters but were unable to find the go-ahead goal.  Wellesley goalkeeper Maddie Miller was called upon to make one save in the first half as the Huskies put three shots towards goal and just one on frame.
  • Townsend put the Huskies' up 1-0 in the 35th minute scoring her first goal of the season, and 12th of her Southern Maine career.  Townsend hit a powerful shot from the right in front of the net a couple of steps behind the penalty spot after receiving a well-played ball in from senior Dylan Barr (Phippsburgh, Maine/Morse).  Barr won the ball in the middle of the field and carried it down the right side before passing it off to a waiting Townsend for the goal.
  • Wellesley pressed for an equalizer, but Romasco made two of her four saves in the final quarter to earn her first collegiate shutout.
