Ben Drummey Repeats as CSC Second Team Academic All-American

GORHAM, Maine – Senior Ben Drummey (Biddeford, Maine) of the University of Southern Maine Huskies' men's track & field team has been named to the 2023-24 Academic All-America ® Men's Track & Field/Cross Country Second Team, as selected by members of the College Sports Communicators (CSC). Drummey also was a Second Team Academic All-American for the 2022-23 academic year.

Drummey joins CJ Moody (Third Team, 2019 and Second Team, 2020) as the only two-time Academic All-Americans in men's track & field program history. Last year, Drummey became the third student-athlete in program history to earn an Academic All-America selection, joining Moody and Darryl Whitney (Second Team, 2003). His selection in the 17th in University of Southern Maine history.

"Ben continues to exemplify what it means to be a student-athlete at the University of Southern Maine," said head coach Rob Whitten. "Starting nursing clinicals this year certainly added another challenge, but he met that challenge with his usual standard of academic and athletic excellence."

Drummey was named to the CSC Academic All-District team earlier this spring and advanced to the Academic All-America ballot. Members of College Sports Communicators vote for student-athletes across NCAA Division I, II, III and NAIA who have excelled academically and athletically. College Sports Communicators began the distinguished Academic All-America® program in 1952, and since then, has honored more than 38,000 deserving student-athletes from numerous sports across all divisions with these elite Academic All-America® scholar-athlete honors. Currently, CSC sponsors Academic All-America® programs for men's soccer, women's soccer, football, volleyball, men's basketball, women's basketball, men's swimming & diving, women's swimming & diving, men's tennis, women's tennis, baseball, softball and men's and women's track and field/cross country. Many other sports are eligible through the At-Large program, including USM sponsored sports field hockey, golf, ice hockey, lacrosse, and wrestling.

A First Team All-American in the pole vault for the 2023-24 indoor season, Drummey placed second at the 2024 NCAA Division III Indoor National Championships. He entered the indoor championship meet with the best mark in the nation at 5.21m, a mark that raised his own program record. In addition to his All-American citation, Drummey was named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division III East Region Field Athlete of the Year and the Little East Conference Field Athlete of the Year.

Drummey qualified for the 2024 NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships as well but an injury while warming up caused him to withdraw from the competition. His decorated career includes five total LEC pole vault titles, six USTFCCCA All-Region honors and four Division III New England titles in the pole vault. A two-time NCAA Division III National Champion in the pole vault, Drummey has earned All-American status five times.

A Nursing major, Drummey's academic accolades also include the 2023 NCAA Division III Men's Indoor Track & Field National Scholar Field Athlete of the Year award, two USTFCCCA All-Academic Athlete awards, three William B. Wise Scholar-Athlete awards, and six LEC All-Academic Team nods.
