How It Happened: Game One – Southern Maine 12, UNE 8
- Miner and sophomore Mackenzie Renner (Alton, N.H./Prospect Mountain) each drove in three runs to lead the Huskies to a high-scoring win in game one. The Huskies pounded out 14 hits off of the UNE pitching corps, led by a 4-for-4 effort from Day.
- After a scoreless first, Southern Maine led 2-0 after the bottom of the second on an RBI double from Day, and an RBI single from senior Hannah Shields (Buckfield, Maine). However, UNE came right back in the top of the third to leap ahead of USM 4-2. Olivia Howe had an RBI double to start the rally, while Grace Tutt put UNE up 3-2 with a two run triple down the right field line. The Noreasters scored their final run of the inning on a wild pitch for a 4-2 lead.
- The Huskies didn't trail for long surging ahead with five runs in the third, and another in the fourth for an 8-4 advantage. Day had an RBI single in the third, and Shields had an RBI ground out to tie the score up at 4-4. With the bases loaded on two outs, Renner hit a three-run triple to the gap in left to put USM up 7-4. In the fourth, senior Rona Scott (Beverly, Mass.) made it 8-4 with an RBI single.
- Having scored six unanswered runs over the third and fourth inning, Miner made it nine unanswered with a towering three-run home run to left.
- Trailing 11-4 in the top of the sixth, UNE posted another four-run inning to trim its deficit to three runs. UNE scored its four runs on three hits, including RBI from Jaiden McKenna, Hannah Lappin, Elise Connor and Becca Dumont.
- USM responded to having its lead more than halved in the bottom of the sixth making it a 12-8 game on an RBI single to left from sophomore Alana Delisle (Amesbury, Mass.). Delisle drove in Day who led off the inning with her fourth hit of the day – a single to left field.
- In the seventh, McIntosh, the game-two winner, entered to close the game and worked around a lead off single getting two strikeouts and a fly out to end the game.
Game Two - Southern Maine 8, UNE 0 (5 inn)
- Miner went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBI in game two, while Delisle drove in two runs for the five-inning victory. McIntosh limited UNE to just four singles in the win.
- USM scored twice in the first inning, led by an RBI single from Day, and then went up 6-0 in the second on three hits and a UNE error. Delisle had her first RBI of the game, scoring Renner who led off the inning with a triple deep into the game in right. Miner made it 5-0 with a two run single, while Scott had an RBI double to right for the 6-0 score.
- With McIntosh forcing three groundouts around a walk in the top of the third, Southern Maine continued to roll offensively in the home half of the inning. USM scored two more times in the third making it 8-0. DeLisle had an RBI single up the middle to make it 7-0. Miner collected her third hit of the game, a single, and a throwing error on the play allowed senior Makena Mulcahy (Auburn, Mass.) to score an unearned run for the eighth run.
- UNE threatened in the top of the fourth with runners on first and second with two outs, but McIntosh got the ground out to third to keep USM ahead 8-0. Following a quiet bottom of the fourth from USM, McIntosh kept the shutout working around a USM fielding error and a single for the win.
