How It Happened: Game One – ECSU 5, Southern Maine 1
- Eastern Connecticut scored three runs in the bottom of the first and rode a solid pitching effort from Alyssa Vilchez to victory in game one. Vilchez scattered six singles and a double in the win, and had the Huskies off the board until the fifth inning.
- Maddi Sauve had a two-run single in the first for ECSU. The Warriors scored its third run of the inning, unearned, on a fielding error. ECSU made it a 4-0 game in the bottom of the fourth as Vilchez singled up the middle for an RBI, and the Warriors tacked on another to lead 5-9 in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single from Emma Marelli.
- Southern Maine broke up the shutout in the top of the sixth. Levasseur led off the inning with a double to the gap in left and moved up to third on a wild pitch. With one out, Day picked up the RBI with a single. The Huskies threatened for more runs as Shields followed Day with a single of her own for runners on first and second, but Vilchez picked up the final two outs on a foul out and fly out to end the threat.
- USM again had two runners on in the top of the seventh with no outs, but a double-play and a ground out ended the inning and the game 5-1 in favor of the Warriors.
How It Happened: Game Two – Southern Maine 13, ECSU 5
- Southern Maine sophomore Lexus McIntosh (Lancaster, N.H./White Mountains) earned her fifth win of the season, and the Huskies pounded out 10 hits and scored six runs in the top of the first en route to a game two win. McIntosh held the Warriors to just four singles and until the fifth inning.
- Scoring six runs in the top of the first, Southern Maine batted around its lineup collecting six hits and a walk. Day had a two-run double to start the scoring for the Huskies. Shields had an RBI single, and sophomore Kendall Migliorini (Salem, N.H./Salem) had a two-run home run to help the Huskies to a crooked number on the scoreboard.
- After a quiet second, USM added two more runs for an 8-0 lead in the top of the third. Benefitting from a walk, two wild pitches and a ECSU fielding error, Migiliorini had an RBI ground out to highlight the at bat for the Huskies. ECSU broke up the shutout in the home half of the third as Sarah Remillard had an RBI single.
- In the top of the fourth, the Huskies busted the game open scoring four more runs for a 12-1 advantage. USM drew threw walks from its first four batters of the inning to load the bases, and Shields picked up an RBI walk to make It 9-1. A fielder's choice RBI from junior Meaghan Dufresne (Mattapoisett, Mass./Old Rochester) and an RBI ground out from Migliorini, plus another ECSU fielding error made it 11-1. Sophomore Mackenzie Renner (Alton, N.H./Prospect Mountain) drove in the final run of the inning for the Huskies with an RBI single.
- USM senior Rona Scott (Beverly, Mass.) made it a 13-1 game in the top of the fifth with an RBI double, scoring Levasseur who led off the inning with a single, setting up the pivotal bottom of the fifth.
- ECSU earned two runners with a single and a double to start the inning, before Emma Marelli drove in the Warriors second run of the game with an RBI ground out. Trailing 13-2 and needing to score at least five more runs to extend the game, the Warriors' Remillar drew a walk to put runners on first and second with one out. Julia SanGiovanni gave ECSU some life with a three-run home run, making the game 13-5 in favor of the Huskies, but McIntosh settled and earned back-to-back ground outs to close the game and earn the win in five-innings.
