PORTLAND, Maine – Junior Zach Desmarais (St. Cyrille, Quebec) earned a win at second singles and teamed up with sophomore Landon Weaver (Bowdoinham, Maine/ Mt. Ararat) for a win at second doubles to earn points for the University of Southern Maine Huskies' men's tennis team in a 7-2 non-conference loss to Thomas College. Thomas earned the season sweep over the Huskies after previously defeating them by the same score on March 26 at Thomas.
 
Desmarais and Weaver earned the first point of the day for the Huskies with an 8-2 win over Calvin Cutler and Caleb Daigneault. At first singles, senior Cole Ouellette (Lewiston, Maine) and sophomore Zac Howe (Arundel, Maine/Thornton Academy) lost a back-and-forth match to Liam Gould and Gabriel McPhail by a score of 9-7. The Terriers also earned a point by default at third doubles.
 
The win for Desmarais is his first of the season. He dropped the first to Gould 6-3 before taking the next two 6-0 and 6-4. Ouellette played well at first singles before falling to McPhail 7-6 (7-2), 6-3. Howe battled Cutler in a marathon of a match before Cutler was able to pull out a win in the tiebreaker.
