How It Happened: Game One – Southern Maine vs. Wilmington
- Trailing 1-0 through two innings, the Huskies equalized in the third on an RBI single from sophomore Olivia Levasseur (Amesbury, Mass.), and took a 4-1 lead by the top of the fifth.
- Led by Levasseur and senior Madi Day (Otisfield, Maine/Oxford Hills), Southern Maine went ahead 2-1 in the fourth. Day led off the inning with a single to left and moved up to third on a pair of fielder's choice plays before crossing home on a wild pitch. Up 2-1 in the fifth, the Huskies scored two more runs to grow their advantage to 4-1 on a trio of hits, including RBI doubles from Levasseur and Day.
- Wilmington battled back to tie the game up at 4-4 in the bottom of the fifth, however, scoring three runs off of the bat of Maddie Starnes. With three runners on after a lead-off double, a single and an infield error, Starnes connected on a double of her own driving in all three Wilmington runs. Looking to stretch her double, Starnes was thrown out advancing to third on a relay from senior Hannah Shields (Buckfield, Maine) in center to sophomore catcher Mackenzie Renner (Alton, N.H./Prospect Mountain) to third baseman sophomore Kendall Migliorini (Salem, N.H.) for the second out. Husky starter Belle Snyder (Epping, N.H.) ended the inning with a pop out.
- Facing a tie score late, Southern Maine responded in the top of the sixth scoring four runs on five hits to take an 8-4 lead. Levasseur and Day again had RBI singles, while senior Rona Scott (Beverly, Mass.) and Shields also drove in runs with singles.
- Once again, Wilmington battled back scoring two runs in the home half of the sixth for an 8-6 Husky lead. USM's Snyder got the first two outs of the inning before giving up two singles and two-run double to Jocelyn Franz. With Southern Maine's lead cut to two, Husky freshman Camdyn Johnson (West Bath, Maine/Morse) was inserted in place of Snyder, and ended the inning with a fly out after yielding a walk.
- The Huskies added an insurance run in the top of the seventh on an RBI double from junior Abby Miner (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) to make the score 9-6, and Johnson worked around a walk in the seventh to retire the side, ending the game on a strikeout for the final. Johnson finished the game earning the save in 1 1/3 inning of scoreless relief.
Game Two - Southern Maine vs. Utica
- Southern Maine started off strong scoring three runs in the first and second inning and then put up five more in the bottom of the third to earn the 8-run rule 11-2 win over Utica in five innings.
- Sophomore Lexus McIntosh pitched a strong game, limiting the Pioneers to five hits in five innings of work.
- Southern Maine combined for nine hits and took advantage of six Utica fielding errors to score its 11 runs. Levasseur was 2-for-3 against the Pioneers with two RBI, while Miner continued to have a strong start to her season knocking her second home run of 2024.
