How It Happened: Game One – Meredith 4, Southern Maine 1
  • Southern Maine took advantage of back-to-back doubles from junior Abby Miner (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) and sophomore Olivia Levasseur (Amesbury, Mass.) to snag a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but Meredith College will bounce back scoring four unanswered runs to earn a 4-1 win.
  • Meredith starter Hannah Weigle earned the win scattering the Huskies' six hits over seven innings.  After giving up the two doubles in the first, Weigle limited USM to lone singles in the second, third, fourth, and seventh innings.
  • Levasseur and senior Hannah Shield (Buckfield, Maine) were repeat hitters for the Huskies.  Levasseur was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, while Shields was 2-for-3 with a pair of singles.

Game Two - Southern Maine 6, SUNY Geneseo 5
  • After a scoreless 1 ½ innings, the Huskies took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second using a pair of hits from Scott and senior Madi Day (Otisfield, Maine/Oxford Hills) and a Knights' fielding error. SUNY Geneseo bounced back in the top of the third to tie the game up at 1-1. Rebecca Shwartz laced a double, and then scored on an RBI ground out from Kaitlyn Schmitz.
  • USM wasted little time retaking the lead in the home half of the third as Miner ripped a one-out double to right, and moved up to third on a single from Levasseur.  With Levasseur moving up to second on a stolen base, Scott came through in the clutch with a two-run double to right and a 3-1 Husky lead.
  • USM starter sophomore Lexus McIntosh worked her way around a walk in the top of the fourth and ended the inning with a pair of strikeouts to keep the Knights at one run through the fourth.  In the top of the fifth, after getting back-to-back ground outs, McIntosh was tagged with back-to-back singles and left the game.  Junior Belle Snyder (Epping, N.H.) entered the game but was hit for a single to load the bases before letting up a home run from Tara Brochu giving the Knights a 5-3 lead. McIntosh entered in the fifth and got the out.
  • Having lost its lead, Southern Maine rallied in the bottom of the fifth.  Getting its lead runner on via a Knights' error, Miner connected on another double chasing SUNY Geneseo starter Schmitz out of the game.  Knight reliever Sydney Bolton got the first out of the inning on a pop out, and then the second on an RBI ground out from Scott for a 5-4 game. With a runner on third Bolton yielded a walk to Day who then stole second.  With two outs and runners at third and second, Shield came through with a single up the middle for a 6-5 USM lead.
  • McIntosh sat the Knights in order in the top of the sixth on a pop up to short and back-to-back foul outs to the right side of the field, and then repeated the effort in the seventh with a strikeout and two pop ups for the win.
  • Scott finished the game with three RBI and a 2-for-3 effort at the plate.  Miner was 2-for-4 with two doubles and a run scored, while Day was 1-for-2 with two runs scored and a walk.  Shields' game-winning hit was her first of the game, going 1-for-3.
