Chargers Down Huskies 8-1

GORHAM, Maine – The Colby-Sawyer College men's tennis team defeated the University of Southern Maine Huskies 8-1 in a non-conference match at the Costello Sports Complex in Gorham on Wednesday afternoon. Freshman Landon Weaver (Bowdoinham, Maine/ Mt. Ararat) picked up a win at sixth singles for the Huskies. The match was originally scheduled to be played at Colby-Sawyer before being moved to Southern Maine's indoor facility due to weather concerns.

The Chargers swept the three doubles matches led by Zsombor Homonnay and Aidan Jensen defeating junior Cole Ouellette (Lewiston, Maine) and sophomore Zac Howe (Arundel, Maine/Thornton Academy) 8-1 at first doubles. In the second doubles match Peyton Meuse and Kham Savatdy defeated sophomores Zach Desmarais (St. Cyrille, QC, Canada/École Secondaire L'Odyssée) and Azam Jiwa (Calgary, AB, Canada/West Island College) 8-0. At third doubles Cohl Schusler and Caiden McManus beat Weaver and freshman Alex Lancaster (Lakeland, Fla./Lakeland Christian) 8-1.

Ouellette, who made his season debut, dropped his first singles match to Homonnay 7-5,6-1. Desmarais was defeated by Jensen 6-1,6-2 at second doubles. Meuse and Savatdy each won 6-0,6-0 at third and fourth singles over Jiwa and junior Ethan Rudnicki (Levant, Maine/Hermon). Schusler recorded a 6-2,6-4 win over Howe at fifth singles. Weaver scored a 6-3,6-4 victory over McManus for his second win of the season to prevent a full sweep.
