PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Victoria Young was 4-for-6 with three RBI and Abby Kidd and Sam Bergantino combined for 15 strikeouts to lead the Rhode Island College Anchormen to a pair of 6-2 wins over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a Little East Conference softball doubleheader Tuesday evening at Dayna A. Bazar Field.

st games between the University of Southern Maine and Rhode Island College. The Anchormen lead the series 41-30. However, the Huskies are 8-4 in the last 12 meetings.

HOW IT HAPPENED vs. RIC Game 1:
- Alexis Boyce had a two-run triple to highlight a three-run first inning for the Anchormen as RIC rode a solid pitching effort from Abby Kid to a 6-2 win. Kidd earned the win, holding USM to five hits and two runs while striking out eight.
- Southern Maine took a run back in the top of the fourth on an RBI sacrifice fly from Hannah Shields (Buckfield, Maine). Rona Scott (Beverly, Mass.) started the Huskies off with a one-out triple to right field before Shields drove her in.
- RIC made it 4-1 in the bottom of the inning as Victoria Young connected with a triple of her own to lead off, and Avery Katz picked up an RBI ground out to second base. The Anchormen tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the sixth to go up 6-1. Young connected on her second triple of the game for an RBI and then scored on a passed ball.
- USM rallied for one run in the seventh as Shields singled her way on, and Kendall Migliorini (Salem, N.H.) connected on a double to center for runners on second and third. RIC was able to collected its second out before Shields touched home on a wild pitch.
HOW IT HAPPENED vs. RIC Game 2:
- After a scoreless first inning, Young drove in a pair of runs with a single up the middle as RIC went up 3-0 in the second on four hits.
- USM made it 3-1 in the top of the third off of the bat of Shields. Lauren Miller (St George, Maine/Camden Hills) led off the inning with an infield single and stole second. After a pair of outs, Miller remained at second until Shields picked up the RBI with a ball up the middle.
- In the home half of the third, RIC took back the run with an RBI single from Cassidy Schoen before USM made it 4-2 in the top of the sixth on an RBI double from Lauren Merrill (Bethel, Maine/Oxford Hills).
- RIC put the game out of reach, however, in the bottom of the sixth adding two more, including an lead off home run to left from Sophia Crudale.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Shields finished the doubleheader 2-for-4 at the plate with a runs scored and two RBI. Merrill was 2-for-5, connecting on a pair of doubles and driving in a run.
UP NEXT:
The Huskies return home on Thursday (3:30 pm) for a non-conference doubleheader against UMaine Farmington. Southern Maine is back in Little East Conference action on Saturday (12:00 pm) hosting UMass Dartmouth for a doubleheader.
