SALEM, Mass. – The University of Southern Maine men's tennis team was defeated by Salem State by a score of 9-0 on Tuesday afternoon in a Little East Conference match in Salem, Mass.
Junior
Ethan Rudnicki (Levant, Maine/Hermon) and sophomore
Zac Howe (Arundel, Maine/Thornton Academy) took on Andrew Muttiah and Quentin Wilkins at first doubles and suffered an 8-0 loss. At second doubles Roni Bazile and Corey Cherico beat the freshman duo of
Landon Weaver (Bowdoinham, Maine/ Mt. Ararat) and
Alex Lancaster (Lakeland, Fla./Lakeland Christian) 8-2. The Vikings won by forfeit at third doubles.
The Vikings swept first through fifth singles and took sixth singles by forfeit. First signals saw Muttiah beat Rudnicki 6-0,6-0 and at second singles Bazile won 6-0,6-1 over Howe. Cherico defeated Weaver 6-0,6-2 at third singles. Lancaster lost to Wilkins 6-1, 7-6 (4-4) at fourth singles. At fifth singles
Jake Singelais (Windsor, Vt.) lost his first set to Andreoli and went on to win the second set 6-2 before eventually dropping the tiebreaker 10-6.
The Huskies return to action tomorrow on the road at Thomas College at 4PM.
