GORHAM Maine – The University of Southern Maine men's tennis team suffered a 6-3 loss to Thomas College on Wednesday evening at the Costello Sports Complex. The Huskies picked up wins at fifth singles and sixth singles and at third doubles
 
At first doubles sophomores 
Zach Desmarais (St. Cyrille, QC, Canada / École Secondaire L'Odyssée) and 
Azam Jiwa (Calgary, AB, Canada/West Island College) lost to Jose Afonso and Nicolas Arena 8-1. Junior 
Ethan Rudnicki (Levant, Maine/Hermon) and sophomore 
Zac Howe (Arundel, Maine/Thornton Academy) also were defeated 8-1 at second doubles falling to Liam Gould and Gabriel McPhail.lost to Mario Karpyuk and Brett Hodas. The Huskies picked up a thriller 7-5 tiebreaker win at third doubles thanks to freshmen 
Landon Weaver (Bowdoinham, Maine/ Mt. Ararat) and 
Alex Lancaster (Lakeland, Fla./Lakeland Christian).
 
Weaver and Lancaster also won their singles matches for the Huskies. Weaver defeated Kegan Rodrigue 6-4, 6-1 at fifth singles and Lancaster won 6-4,6-0 over Caleb Daigneault at sixth singles. The Terriers won first singles as Afonso bested Desmarais 6-4,6-1 and at second singles Arena defeated Jiwa 6-1,6-1. Third singles saw McPhail overcome Rudnicki 6-1,6-0 and at fourth singles Howe played well before falling 7-5,6-4.
 
The Huskies open Little East Conference play on Saturday at Rhode Island College with the match set to being at 1PM.
