GORHAM, Maine –
Olivia Jalbert (Auburn, Maine/Edward Little) and the University of Southern Maine coaching staff received major awards from the Little East Conference as the conference announced its major awards for women's indoor track and field on Friday afternoon. Jalbert was crowned the LEC Field Athlete of the Year and the Huskies' coaching staff, led by Head Coach
Rob Whitten, was named Coaching Staff of the Year. 12 other USM athletes received all-conference honors, as did the 4x200m relay team and the 4x400m relay team.
Jalbert won the conference titles in the high jump and long jump for the second year in a row to earn First Team All-LEC honors in each event. She was one of three Huskies to earn First Team honors in two events. Junior
Catriona Gould (Freeport, Maine) was the conference champion in the 60 meters and the 200 meters and sophomore
Olivia Mosca (Brewer, Maine) earned First Team honors in the mile and 3000 meters.
First Team All-LEC status was also awarded to senior
Sophia Slovenski (Cape Neddick, Maine/Phillips Academy) in the pole vault, sophomore
Ella Boucher (Auburn, Maine/Edward Little) in the triple jump, and the 4x400 relay team of
Riley Reitchel (Palermo, Maine/Erskine Academy),
Emma Noonan (Steep Falls, Maine/Bonny Eagle),
Heaven Conley (Ogunquit, Maine/Wells) and
Anna Reny (Gardiner, Maine/Cony).
Freshman
Janiah Young (Perkinsville, Vt./Windsor) earned All-Rookie honors in three events. She was the top rookie finisher in the 60 meters, the 200 meters and the long jump. Additionally, she was the conference runner-up in the 200 meters and earned Second Team All-LEC designation.
Slovenski also picked up Second Team All-LEC honors in the long jump and 60-meter hurdles. Additional Second Team honors went to Reny in the 400 meters, sophomore
Sarah Fecteau (Gray, Maine/Gray-New Gloucester) in the pole vault, sophomore
Zoe Barnes (New Gloucester, Maine/Gray-New Gloucester) in the shot put and senior
Hannah Corbett (Sebago, Maine/Bonny Eagle) in the weight throw. The 4x200 relay team of
Maddie Fornasier (South Burlington, Vt.),
Mackenzie Betty (Nashua, N.H./Nashua South), Conley and
Sophia Poole (Oakland, Maine/Waterville) earned Second Team All-Conference honors as well.
Other Huskies to receive All-Rookie status include Reitchel in the pole vault,
Anabel Melanson (West Warren, Mass./Quaboag) in the 600 meters and
Marie Prock (Westmoreland, N.H./Keene) in the triple jump.
The Southern Maine coaching staff was tabbed as coaching staff of the year after guiding the Huskies to their 22
nd LEC title. Led by
Rob Whitten the Southern Maine staff also consists of assistant coaches
